BURNHAM 2 BEACONSFIELD SYCOB 0
Burnham yet again coasted to victory in the local derby with SYCOB courtesy of two well taken goals by Denis Fenemore. This was the Blues third consecutive match without conceding a goal and for the last half hour had to cope with only 9 players on the park.
Burnham dominated the first half of the match with SYCOB not really having many shots on target. In the first minute SYCOB pushed forward and were caught offside. A through ball to Fenemore saw his first time shot go over the crossbar. The next few minutes saw the ball in the visitors half for most of the time. On 9 minutes FENEMORE broke the deadlock when a ball from Ryan Bird saw the striker turn and beat keeper Chris Baker at the far post. Two minutes later Burnham had a second chance in as many minutes when a Stuart Swift freekick was too high for Will Dunlop. John Swift for the visitors saw his effort deflected out for a corner. Fenemore had an opportunity to add to the scoreline on 25 minutes when with only Baker to beat the keeper did really well and a corner was conceded, It became 2-0 on 33 minutes when as good a goal as you will see this season came about. Paul Coyne found Fenemore who threaded the ball to Swift who quickly passed the ball back and FENEMORE struck home from 20 yards. The first half saw four players cautioned, Burnham’s Swift and Ross Lafayette and SYCOB’s Dan Lake and Danny Bennell, all for fouls.
The second period saw the Blues having more of the play early on. On 57 minutes the match was turned on its head and from then on stopped being a contest. Bird was on the ground with a SYCOB defender over the top of him holding him down when all hell broke loose. The outcome was John Swift for SYCOB was cautioned and Lafayette was called aside and shown the red card. The defender involved at the start of the incident walked away unpunished. Two minutes later Paul Brett was given his marching orders after fouling Trevor Charlery and being adjudged to have stopped a goal scoring chance wide out on the right outside the box. From this moment on Burnham defended resolutely for half an hour with SYCOB only having one chance in that period when John Swift forced Paul McCarthy to put the ball round the post for a corner. Fenemore had been replaced by Terry O’Connor during this period and came on in midfield. The second half was spoilt by an incident that was really no fault of the Burnham players.
