Saturday Marxch 16th 2010 ZAMARETTO LEAGUE DIVISION ONE MIDLAND
BURNHAM 1 AFC SUDBURY 2
A good defensive showing from AFC Sudbury brought an end to Burnham’s ten game winning run and at the same time ending their own five game spell without a win. Burnham ran the show for much of the game and in the first half had numerous set pieces, which they failed to take advantage of. Ben Hudell went close early on for Burnham before the visitors took the lead on 13 minutes. Daniel Emmnual was picked out on the right and beat Burnham keeper to the ball and then crossed the ball into the penalty area where Burnham defender WILL DUNLOP, running back saw the ball find the net off his legs. The AFC skipper Heath was wide with a snap shot before Adrian Sear really should have pulled the sores level following a Stuart Swift free kick on the right. He was left unmarked and with the goal at his mercy steered his header wide of the post. Burnham’s attacking options, already missing the unwell Ryan Bird was further hampered when leading scorer Denis Fenemore was forced off with a leg injury on 36 minutes to be replaced by Trevor Charlery. Burnham dominated the second half with Ross Lafayette firing over twice in the opening minutes and Jordan Dowdican firing first straight at the outstanding AFC keeper Wilmot, and then being unlucky when a superb strike rebounded back into play off the upright. Burnham pulled the scores level on 76 minutes, Terry O’Connor just on for Ben Hudell, put the ball into the area where ADRIAN SEAR fired powerfully home. Burnham piled men forward hoping to keep their winning run going but with six minutes left Stuart Swift delivered a back pass that pulled up short of keeper Paul McCarthy and presented sub RHYS DARG with the simplest chance to net what proved to be the winner. The visitors almost immediately were reduced to 10 men when Curtis Haynes-Brown received a second booking. Burnham still pressed forward but could not find another break through.
