Burnham arrived at Rams Meadow for one of the most difficult matches of the campaign so far, mindful of the form Bury had shown this season. Jamie Jarvis started with the same line up that had started at Atherstone in midweek, but included new signing Denis Fenemore on the bench.
The first half was played in such cold, wet and gale force winds which made football very difficult. Both sides did try to find an opening, but keeper Marcus Garnham for Bury and our own Paul McCarthy kept things level in a first half that stayed goalless.
With the wind behind the Blues back you hoped the team would take advantage of the situation but the early exchanges in the second period saw the home team in control. Things changed round slowly and Burnham started causing all sorts of problems for Bury. On 62 minutes Dean PAPALI broke away and squeezed past his marker and fired past Garnham to take the lead. Five minutes later the lead was doubled when good work from Ryan Bird down the left saw his cross find PAPALI unmarked and he scored from 2 yards. Within two minutes Bury reduced the arrears when Lee REED had a superb strike, netting from 25 yards. The two goal advantage was restored on 74 minutes when a poor kick out from Garnham went into the path of BIRD who just connected and saw the ball fly into the back of an empty net. Nick DAVEY further reduced the arrears when he pulled another goal back for the home team from a very narrow angle. The pressure was on for the last few minutes but the Blues again held out, this time for a superb victory in atrocious conditions.
