Burnham fielded the same 11 that had commenced the home fixture on Saturday against Woodford United, and they started strongly forcing a corner in the very first minute against a side they had never met before. Blues skipper Paul Brett was an early recipient of a yellow card for a mistimed tackle on youngster James Freshwater, which left the Waders man needing treatment. Town's Jamie Steele was lively upfront and almost got in on goal after good work down the right from Stephen Smith and Bobby Dance. He however failed to control the ball and Will Dunlop cleared the danger. Stuart Swift was instrumental in most of Burnham's forward probes and he had the Waders keeper Dean Bull at full stretch to turn his long range shot around the post. After Freshwater had fired way over for the visitors, Burnham then had a spell of pressure. Ollie Godwin provided a good cross in from the right, which Ryan Bird glanced a header goal wards that keeper Bull did well to foil. Town almost took the lead when Smith put over an excellent cross from the right, which the Burnham defence failed to clear and Steele dashing in at the far post saw the ball cannon off his legs and bounce on and over the crossbar. Immediately at the other end the Blues should have scored. Dean Papali close to the by line squeezed the ball back to Bird who from a couple of yards out managed to guide the ball wide of the upright. Burnham continued to have the lion’s share of the ball but the final pass lacked quality. Dave Tilbury advanced down the right and sent in a cross which Swift looped a header onto the top of the netting. More good work down their right from the Waders Smith and Dance ended with a couple of decent crosses, which had the Burnham defence at full stretch. Swift then had two efforts on the visitor's goal which were both deflected for corners. At the beginning of the second half Adrian Sear hit a shot wide before on 50 minutes Burnham took the lead. Godwin and Rob Saunders linked up down the right and the ball ran to DEAN PAPALI who controlled it well and sent an absolute scorcher of a shot which Bull could hardly have seen yet alone save. Swift forced Bull into a smart save following a free kick, before Dunlop and Steele found themselves in the Referees book. A fast break down the left ended with Bird advancing on goal, however keeper Bull spotted the danger and dashed out to save at the feet of the Burnham striker. Kevin Kilroy and Papali were both booked following a tangle between the two players. Blues keeper Paul McCarthy, who had a fairly quiet evening, was a little fortunate to keep his goal in tact after his clearance struck Steele, but he won the race to recover the loose ball. The visitor's had Burnham under pressure and a scramble in their goal area was eventually cleared up field, before Biggleswade became the first visiting team this season to score a league goal at the Gore, when on 72 minutes a good passing movement created an opening for JAMES FRESHWATER who directed a shot in off the inside of the upright to pull the scores level.
Burnham created a couple of good chances to go in front again, first Godwin delivered a cross which Bird tried his luck with an overhead shot which cleared the crossbar, and then Swift sent in a tantalising ball across the face of the goal which tailed to find a Burnham attacker. What turned out to be the decider occurred in the 84th minute, a methodical build up down the right saw Saunders deliver a pinpoint cross to the far post where RYAN BIRD rose to send a header beyond Bull. Town did have a late effort from Glen Lamacraft who bent a shot, which luckily for Burnham went wide of the goal. This win puts Burnham at the top of the league while The Waders still await an away win in the Midland Division.
