BURNHAM 0 ROMULUS 0
Burnham kept their unbeaten record in tact and made it 6 clean sheets out of 8 but had to be content with just one point against a well-organised Romulus side. Burnham started well and a good run down the right from Ryan Bird ended with Dean Papali going for goal but he failed to control the ball, and the visitor’s defence cleared the situation. Paul Coyne then hit a snap shot through a wall of defenders which Roms keeper Matthew Sergeant saw late and dived well to save cleanly with the Burnham strikers hovering close by. Leo Brown failed to get any power on his shot following good work down the Romulus left by Lei Brown, and Ashley Jackson disposed Daryl Jones, and advance on goal, which saw Burnham keeper Paul McCarthy save at the expense of a corner. Sergeant made another good stop after Rob Saunders had been put through by Coyne, but overall the goalkeepers were not overworked. The visitors came out strongly in the second period and Leo Brown was put clear in the very first minute of the half, however Burnham keeper McCarthy spotted the danger and came off his line to make a superb stop. The game, which had been fast and furious in the opening stages, wilted a little on a warm and humid afternoon and became somewhat scrappy. A Papli- Bird linkup provided Rob Saunders a chance of a shot on goal but his effort did not trouble Sergeant. The visitors finished the stronger side but like Burnham could not find a felling shot on goal. In fact the best effort did fall to the home side late on when Adrian Sear hit a thunderbolt which Sergeant did extremely well to turn round the upright for a corner. Overall a draw was a fair result.
